Welcome

Dear Sailor:

On behalf of the New Bedford Yacht Club, I am delighted to welcome you and your families to our Club and this championship sailing event. Unlike “open” regattas, you have earned the right to participate here. Of the many hundreds of young sailors who dream of going this far, you are one of only sixty who have made it to the 2004 U.S. Junior-Singlehanded and U.S. Junior-Doublehanded Championship for the Bemis and Smythe Trophies. You deserve to be very proud of this accomplishment.

Our yacht club was founded 127 years ago with a strong emphasis on sailing. This heritage explains the Club’s predominant focus on sailing and our effort to host a well respected junior regatta each year, in addition to one of the most well-renowned regattas on the east coast, Buzzards Bay Regatta, every other year. We delight in being able to help foster and perpetuate this great sport, and are proud to have the opportunity to showcase our Club and all it stands for during this event.

We hope that the enthusiasm of our members shows through while you are here and that you leave with wonderful memories of a marvelous time at New Bedford Yacht Club.

Sincerely,

John I. Babbitt, Jr.

Commodore
